- Economic news rose to the fore as earnings season winds down. Retail sales and industrial production for April registered their steepest declines since 1957. However, the move to block semiconductor shipments to Huawei escalating tension with China has caused many investors to question any further extent of the current market rebound.
- Spreads gave up ground during the week in conjunction with various adjustments to the expected closing date given on some deals. We expect deals with Chinese connections to once again rise to prominence as tensions rise. As COVID-19 is merged into the trade war, we expect more regulatory activity in the M&A arena.
