And Finally…
- A holiday shortened trading week saw little news on the economic front. As the gentle downward trend in new COVID-19 infections continues, businesses are tentatively beginning to re-emerge. Cyclical sectors have already outperformed as traders place bets on who will be first out of the gate. Economic assistance in Europe also helped to restore optimism in the global markets.
- Spreads narrowed slightly during the week. With one more deal closing, WBC, the index continues to operate with only 19 stocks. With the exception of a handful of smaller deals, the effects of COVID-19 on the M&A market continues. For a more in depth discussion of how the COVID-19 pandemic is effecting merger arbitrage investing, see our article Covid-19 and Merger Arbitrage Trading.
